United Nations Organizations

United Nations Department of Field Support - Maps and Geographic Information Resources
GISFood / Fish and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation - Fisheries and Aquaculture Management Division at FAO is actively promoting the use of spatial analytical tools and geo-referenced information for the analysis of Fisheries and Aquaculture data and in the development of Fisheries and Aquaculture management.
Second Administrative Level Boundaries (SALB) - launched in 2001 in the context of the activities of the UN Geographic Information Working Group (UNGIWG) and has for objective to provide access to a working platform for the collection, management, visualization and sharing of sub national data and information in a seamless way from the national to the global level.
GEO Data Portal - authoritative source for data sets used by UNEP and its partners in the Global Environment Outlook (GEO) report and other integrated environment assessments. Its online database holds more than 500 different variables, as national, subregional, regional and global statistics or as geospatial data sets (maps), covering themes like Freshwater, Population, Forests, Emissions, Climate, Disasters, Health and GDP. Display them on-the-fly as maps, graphs, data tables or download the data in different formats.

International Organizations

International Cartographic Association (ICA) - The mission of the ICA is to promote the discipline and profession of cartography in an international context.

Joint Board of Geospatial Information Societies (JB GIS) - is a coalition of leading international geospatial societies which can speak on behalf of the geospatial profession at international level, especially to the United Nations and other global stakeholders. Its second goal is to coordinate activities within the geospatial society and organizations.

International Association of Geodesy (IAG) - The Mission of IAG is the advancement of geodesy. It is implemented by furthering geodetic theory through research and teaching, by collecting, analyzing, modelling and interpreting observational data, by stimulating technological development and by providing a consistent representation of the figure, rotation, and gravity field of the Earth and planets, and their temporal variations. The objectives cover the study of all geodetic problems related to Earth observation and global change.

International Steering Committee for Global Mapping (ISCGM) primary purpose of this Committee is to examine measures that concerned national, regional and international organizations can take to foster the development of Global Mapping in order to facilitate the implementation of global agreements and conventions for environmental protection as well as the mitigation of natural disasters and to encourage economic growth within the context of sustainable development.

International Map Trade Association (IMTA) - provides companies with access to sponsorship and marketing opportunities and can offer practical advice about international business and regional development grants.

International Federation of Surveyors (FIG)

International Geospatial Society - is the individual membership arm of the GSDI Association and seeks individuals for membership that have geospatial, SDI, GIS or related professional or specialist interests. The Society enhances communications globally among individuals that are actively involved in promoting, developing, or advancing spatial data infrastructure and related concepts.

GLOBAL SPATIAL DATA INFRASTRUCTURE ASSOCIATION - is an inclusive organization of organizations, agencies, firms, and individuals from around the world. The purpose of the organization is to promote international cooperation and collaboration in support of local, national and international spatial data infrastructure developments that will allow nations to better address social, economic, and environmental issues of pressing importance.

Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG) - is the national organization representing practising geographers from public and private sectors and from universities. The CAG is active on many fronts: from the dissemination of geographic research to the promotion of geographic education and cooperation with international organizations.

Alberta Geological Survey -has a large selection of maps for different NTS areas of Alberta showing surficial and bedrock geology, drift thickness, groundwater/hydrogeology, and mineral resources.
GeoNOVA - the Province of Nova Scotia’s gateway to geographic information about Nova Scotia. Includes free maps and licensed data sets.
